There follows a few application examples:
Using a Bluetooth wireless technology enabled device, the patient regularly collects health data (blood pressure, weight, cholesterol) which are transmitted to a mobile phone or a PDA and can be sent to the caregiver for remote monitoring and health management of the patient. Two main advantages: the number of visits in a medical centre is considerably reduced, complications can be detected earlier. Using a medication dispenser, a patient can receive reminders to take medication. If the patient has not taken medication after several reminders, an alert with the time and the medicine missed can be sent to their caregiver who can take the appropriate action.
In a medical centre
Current technology uses wires to connect the sensors on the body to the measurement equipment. Bluetooth wireless technology can replace these wires, allowing measurements to be taken remotely and more conveniently. The person undergoing the testing is more mobile which is useful to measure body functions of athletes or response to exercise.
A medical dispenser (e.g. an inhaler or intravenous medication delivery device) connected through Bluetooth wireless technology to a medical facility measuring the response to the medicine can constantly adjust dosage.
